I think that some hydraulic fluids are red and that's where the name comes from.

I think the problem would be that a "hydraulic" system would be to easy to break. Since these are toys Mattel has to keep small parts in mind when
building them.

i understand the theory on small parts but when you look at other cars they make and the small parts on them it doesnt make sense. a good example is pit crew
guidos stack of tyres which is very small and easily swallowed.
